GPU School of Journalism Signs MOU with School of Journalism and Digital Media

On Wednesday, June 14, 2017,the Gambia Press Union School of Journalism and the School of Journalism and Digital Media, University of The Gambia signed a Memorandum of Understanding over a range of issues.

The purpose of the MOU is to promote cooperation between the two institutions in terms of journalism training. The MOU also seeks to strengthen cooperation in terms of modules taught with a view to processing a smooth transfer of students from the GPU J-School to the SJDM.

Key in the agreement is for the SJDM to allow students graduating with a diploma or advanced diploma from the GPU J-School into the second and third year respectively pending the meet the entry requirements of the University of The Gambia.

The two institutions also commit to organising events, conferences, symposia and programmes together and also on the area of research.

Speaking at signing ceremony, acting Dean, School of Journalism and Digital Media, Nana Grey-Johnson said he is happy that they are singing an important document as this with the GPU J-School saying he has long been waiting for such a day.

Sang Mendy, training manager at the GPU J-School said he is elated to see this come through. He assured the SJDM leadership of keeping his side of the agreement saying, “I can assure Mr Grey-Johnson that the students the GPU J-School will recommend to come to the SJDM will be students of great academic repute and of exemplary character.

The duo called on UNESCO to continue to support them in their drive to transform journalism in The Gambia.

Papa Njie who represented UNESCO thank both parties for their resolve to making this dream come through signing, “it has been a long journey but thank God, we are signing.”

The signing ceremony was attended by representatives of both institutions.
